Iraqi musician, Nasir Shamma said that, soon after the war, he will hold many concerts in Mosul and Erbil, and his current visit to Baghdad is to check some historical sites like, El Rashid Street and old squares to renew them, within “Meet Baghdad” project.
He added that, there are preparations to participate in World Peace Day next September, and there will be many projects that will show the true spirit of Baghdad, including the ones conducted in Kurdistan region.
He talked about the Iraqi people suffering because of terrorism, stressing that people should not be treated based on their religious, but their true values and impacts. He added that, his concerts were not performed on personal desire, but in an attempt to highlight Iraq position and civilization.
He said Iraqi creativity came from suffering, but it is now the time to search for new motive like, peace and love, stressing the importance of education, and how it can be used to demolish all violence.
He confirmed that “no violence” idea isn’t just a slogan, but a necessary need to remove all violence and to give young people hope to save Iraq, and all of this can happen if everyone starts with himself, starting from refusing any bribes and fighting corruption.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization chose Shamma to be “UNESCO Artist of Peace” in Paris. UNESCO director, Irina Bokova gave him a certificate, stating that he earned this title, because of his support to Iraqi musicians, and his undying efforts to spread peace through his concerts.
Iraqi Ministry of Culture said that members of Iraq delegation participating in the International Coordination Conference for the Protection of Heritage in Iraq held in France, attended Shamma’s ceremony, and Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Farid Rwandzi said that, choosing Shamma is an honor to all Iraqi art and artists, adding that Shamma is a respected figure, thanks to his humanitarian situations and his initiatives to develop Baghdad.
