Egypt's Ambassador in Khartoum Ossama Shaltout said the opening of border crossings between Egypt and Sudan aims at increasing and deepening ties between the peoples of the Nile Valley, as well as increasing the volume of trade, economic and investment exchange between the two countries.
In statements to MENA Saturday, the ambassador added that the border crossings contribute to the increase in the movement of transit trade in the framework of the "COMESA" agreement and the three African communities, as well as the positive contribution in increasing the volume of trade between African countries.
The ambassador also underscored the importance of border crossings as a gateway to economic integration between Egypt and Sudan.
He said that the sixth meeting of the technical border crossings committee between the two countries evaluated the work of Qostol-Ashkit border crossing and discussed preparations to fix a date for the inauguration of Arjin crossing to be the second border crossing between the two Arab countries.
The joint committee assigned to follow up operations at border crossings approved opening Arjin crossing, which will link the land road extending from Alexandria to Cape Town in South Africa.
The committee convened in a cordial atmosphere, the ambassador said.
The Egyptian and Sudanese governments were persistent and exhibited a genuine desire to develop ports and crossings between the two countries, as they represent a crucial tool for achieving integration between the peoples of the Nile Valley, he added.
