International Monetary Fund Chief Christine Lagarde urged removal of legal barriers and to enable women contribute more to the GDP of economy.
Citing results from IMF’s research ahead of International Women’s Day (IWD) she said, "Legal obstacles should be removed for women to contribute more to the economy." We have studied 150 countries and found many legal obstacles in 90 per cent of them, she said.
The tax system should not discriminate against women, and paternity and maternity leave must be encouraged and funding made available for this, she said.
Gender gap will reduce if we remove these barriers, she added.
