Iran's Ambassador to Madrid Mohammad Hassan Fadayee Fard underlined the Spanish officials' logical and constructive stance on the talks between Iran and the six major world powers, and expressed the hope that Tehran-Madrid ties could witness further promotion after the removal of the West's sanctions against Iran. “Although Spain is not a member of the Group5+1 (the US, China, Russia, France, Britain and Germany - which are in talks with Iran), as an important and influential country in the European Union, it has played a positive role in the nuclear talks,” Fadayee Fard said. He further stated that Spanish officials, throughout Iran’s nuclear talks in the Swiss city of Geneva, expressed their support for dialogue and diplomacy in order to resolve differences and establish peace and stability in the world, and welcomed the interim deal clinched between Iran and the six world powers last November. Fadayee Fard went on to say that the numerous statements released by the Spanish Foreign Ministry in support of the Geneva accord and its implementation are clear examples of such a fact. Iran and Spain have enjoyed amicable ties for centuries based on mutual understanding. The volume of the trade exchanges between the two countries amounted to 4 billion Euros in 2011, while the figure stood at 3.5 billion Euros in 2009. Iran announced on Thursday that the recent experts talks with the Group 5+1 have been fruitful. The latest round of experts talks between Iran and G5+1 wrapped up in New York on Wednesday. Iranian Foreign Ministry's Director-General for Political Affairs Hamid Ba’eedinejad who headed the country's delegation said on Thursday that both sides had “fruitful discussions” during the two-day talks. On November 24, Iran and the Group 5+1 sealed a six-month Joint Plan of Action to lay the groundwork for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Iran over the latter's nuclear energy program. In exchange for Tehran’s confidence-building bid to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities, the sextet of the world powers agreed to lift some of the existing sanctions against Tehran and impose no nuclear-related sanctions on Iran during the six-month period.
