Israeli army said Wednesday evening that it started mobilizing its ground forces towards borders with the Gaza Strip as a 72-hour ceasefire truce meditated by Egypt will end by this midnight.
The movement of these forces comes at a time when Hamas threatens to resume firing rockets if indirect talks with Israel mediated by Cairo fail to achieve a substantial progress, reported Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot.
Israeli army gets ready for renewing possible fighting with Palestinians if talks in Cairo for a permanent truce agreement in the Strip failed, the newspaper said, adding that for that reason Army pushes its forces towards borders near Gaza.
The army works on concentrating forces along borders with Gaza, while talks over truce between the two sides continue in Cairo this night.
Mobilizing forces is a measure to deal with any possible emergency if the talks fail, Israeli Radio quoted a spokesman for the army.
Forces of infantry and artillery units, along with other units are very ready to launch any military offensive on the Strip, he said, noting that Israeli army called up units Wednesday to join forces near the Strip.
Egypt proposed for a permanent truce between the two sides but no one so far has responded to that proposal.
The Israeli aggression on Gaza over a month has left more than 1,945 Palestinians dead and more than 10,000 injured.
