Police sources said the other militants managed to break off the cordon and escaped into forest area.
"The remaining militants managed to escape from the house during the exchange of fire," said a police officer.
Police and Indian army officials said the operation was carried out on specific intelligence inputs about presence of militants in the area.
"We had inputs that three militants were present in the house," the officer said. "The operation is under way and further details are awaited."
The gunfight comes a day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a day long visit to the restive region.
