The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has called on the world community to live up to its responsibilities and act to stop Israel's attempts to drag the region into a religious war.
The Israeli government is escalating its unprecedented attacks on Al Aqsa Mosque in a bid to enforce the idea of the temporal and spatial division of the holy mosque, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
It held the Israeli government fully responsible for the escalation and its repercussions.
The world community and the Arab and Muslim countries should act to end the Israeli occupation and restore the Palestinian rights, the statement added.
They should act to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, it said, seeing in this a first step on the road to self-determination.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry also pressed for action to protect Palestinian holy sites and property. It stressed the freedom of worship in line with international law and the Geneva accords, as well as human rights conventions.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry also paid tribute to Palestinians staying in Al Aqsa in an effort to foil Israel's plans to divide the mosque.
