Russia said Monday it will submit a draft resolution on Ukraine to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) proposing talks to end the violence and create humanitarian corridors in the country.
"The draft resolution will demand violence be stopped immediately and talks started to cease fire," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters.
It will also propose the creation of humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to leave conflict-ridden areas if they want to, Lavrov added.
He urged all relative parties to commit to the April 17 Geneva statement and the roadmap produced by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
The Western countries, Lavrov said, had promised to end the unrest as soon as the presidential elections were held in Ukraine, "but it's quite the other way around."
Noting that people in Ukraine have been increasingly suffering, the minister criticized the way some Western media reported on the months-long crisis.
"Unfortunately, most Western media keep silent about this information and show different pictures. For example, I was amazed when I watched several editions of Euronews in a row where not a single word was said about Ukraine," the Interfax news agency quoted Lavrov as saying.
Russia has repeatedly said a humanitarian catastrophe was haunting Ukraine, while Kiev accused Moscow of inciting unrest in its southeastern regions.
