Russia is to take precautionary measures after Ukraine had signed association agreements with the European Union, ITAR-TASS News Agency reported Friday.
The agreements, which were signed by Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, will open the EU market and will create a free trade zone with the former Soviet countries. However, the agreement does not make the three countries the members of the EU yet.
The news agency quoted Russian President's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov as saying that Russia will take all necessary measures if the agreement were to be detrimental to the Russian economy.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had expressed his concerns over a future flow of European exports to Russian through Ukraine.
He warned that his country would not allow Europe to take advantage of the free trade agreement that was singed between Russia and Ukraine to bring its exports into the Russian markets.
