Seoul’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said it welcomes Iran and six world powers’ agreement to curb Tehran’s nuclear program. The ministry made the statement and said the deal is aimed at freezing Tehran’s uranium enrichment and heavy water reactor-related activities in exchange for lifting sanctions, according to Korea’s (KBS WORLD) website. Seoul also welcomed Iran’s decision to allow inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The statement also urged North Korea to abide by its international obligations and promises including the September 19th denuclearization agreements at the six-party talks in September 2005 and UN Security Council resolutions. The South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman also called for the North’s strategic decision to abandon its nuclear program. Earlier on Sunday, the UN Security Council’s five permanent members — the US, China, Russia, Britain and France — and Germany reached a preliminary agreement with Iran to freeze Tehran’s nuclear activities.
