Andy Murray raises runner's up plate at Wimbledon 2012 London - Agencies A tearful Andy Murray has lost to Roger Federer in four sets at the Wimbledon Championship final. The Swiss champion has achieved his seventh  title at the All England Club winning in 3 sets;  4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4, as Murray failed to add his name to the trophy which the last British gentleman to win a Wimbledon singles title won in 1936. Murray was overcome with emotion as he accepted his runner's-up shield and attempted to address the Centre Court crowd, acknowledging he is "getting closer" before congratulating Federer with an attempt at a joke despite his huge disappointment saying he's "not bad for a 30-year-old". He went on to thank the support he has received during the tournament, as other supporters wept along with him including his mother, Judy and girlfriend Kim Sears. Federer began nervously in contrast to the controlled aggression of his opponent, who broke him in his first service game, before the Swiss broke back. Following a break in play when rain forced the game to stop during the third set while the Centre Court roof was closed, Federer regained his form  - especially on his backhand on Murray's second serve - which enabled him to break the Scot in the final game of the second set to level the match. From this turning point, Federer went on to win the next two sets and the coveted Wimbledon title to become the new world number one and level his hero Pete Sapras' record of seven Wimbledon titles.
