A total of 11 Taliban militants and two policemen have been killed in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni Province over the past 24 hours, provincial police chief Aminullah Omarkhil said Wednesday.
According to the official, the clash erupted after Taliban militants attacked checkpoints in Qala-e-Qazi locality outside provincial capital the Ghazni city on Tuesday and police retaliated forcing militants to flee.
Two Taliban fighters and three policemen have been injured in the fighting which has been sporadically continuing, the official said.
Taliban militants have not commented on the incident.
Ghazni province with Ghazni city as its capital 125 km south of Kabul has been the scene of increasing insurgency over the past few years.
