A total of 12 people were injured in a train accident in Central Turkey early Wednesday. A freight train rammed into a passenger train while it was off- loading passengers at Ulukisla train station in Ulukisla town of Nigde province, according to news report. Five passengers and seven train workers were slightly injured and were taken to Ulukisla and Nigde state hospitals for medical treatment, said the report, adding that the freight train ignored the order to stop. Turkish State Railways then set up a crisis center and a team of experts were sent to the site of the accident. Turkey is trying to improve its rail system, which is beset by signaling malfunctions, ill-equipped trains, deteriorating tracks and a lack of barriers at road crossings.
