Two Afgan militants were killed and three others wounded after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) they were planting along a main road detonated accidently in eastern Khost province, a provincial security source said Friday.
"The incident occurred in Sabari district late Thursday and the sly militants become the victims of their own home-made IED," the source told Xinhua, adding that the victims belonged to Taliban militant group.
The Taliban has been using IEDs to target security forces but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians, according to military officials.
The incident came as the Afghan security forces had beefed up security operations recently as militants were attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions ahead of winter in the mountainous country.
The Taliban has yet to make comments.
