The Mexican Navy said it has arrested two top leaders of one of the country's largest drug trafficking organizations, the Gulf Cartel. Sailors arrested Jorge Eduardo Costilla Sanchez, known as El Coss, Wednesday in Tampico in northeastern Tamaulipas, The New York Times reported. He is considered to be the top of leader of the Gulf Cartel, a statement from the Navy said. Costilla had been wanted by the United States since 2002 on charges of drug trafficking, money laundering and threatening to assault federal officers, the Times reported. The Mexican Navy arrested one of the Gulf Cartel's top generals Tuesday in Guadalajara in southern Tamaulipas, The (McAllen, Texas) Monitor reported. In a statement, the Navy said Juan Gabriel "Sierra" Montes Sermeno admitted his role as a regional leader in the cartel and his involvement in money laundering, drug transportation and managing ranching properties. Along with Sermeno, authorities arrested his bodyguard Eusebio Hora Arguellos and a third man whose name was not reported.
