Sri Lankan police said on Tuesday, that at least 28 people were injured due to the riots broke out in a prison under tight security in Colombo. One of the policemen stated that among these people, 24 prisoners were injured following the guards clash with them inside Welikada prison in Borella.
The new prison administration has launched a massive programme in order to curtail the drugs inside the prison and apart from that to prevent drugs going inside the prison.
The policeman also said that the prisoners broke into the chamber where their files were kept, and burnt and destroyed all the files and a part of the building.
A prominent official in the prison said that most of the injured were shot in their legs, and tear gas was used on them as well.
