Islamabad - UPI

At least three people are dead as rioting and vandalism escalated in Pakistan's Punjab province over energy shortages, officials said. More than 4,000 people face charges after Monday's riots that included looting of banks, shops and train stations. Rioters are angry about the practice of load sharing that leaves people without power for hours at a time. Geo News said many cities saw widespread vandalism. Three people were killed and at least eight others were injured in Khanewal when guards opened fire from the rooftop of a home belonging to a government official. The killings fueled additional demonstrations, Geo News said. Fire was set to a train in Gujranwala and offices in Wapda were ransacked.
