Manila - Xinhua

Four workers were killed and seven others injured when a steel scaffolding gave way and fell onto them in a northern Philippine shipyard Friday morning, a local TV station reported. Jeffrey Khonghun, mayor of Subic town, Zambales province, told ANC that the accident happened in Keppel Subic Shipyard in the town. The Keppel company that the 11 workers work with are responsible for the accident "because it happened inside the shipyard," said Khonghun. Khonghun said he had talked to the Keppel vice-president for safety who "couldn't believe they would have an accident with fatalities." The mayor said he expects the company to give proper compensation to the workers involved in the accident.
