State police spokesperson Musa Magaji Majiya confirmed the attack to Xinhua in Kano, noting that the civilians were killed by gunmen riding on motorcycles after the Maghrib prayer on Friday night. The gunmen attacked Muslim worshippers after the Maghrib prayer in an open mosque in the area as they were heading back home. The gunmen opened fire on the civilians, killing five. Majiya told Xinhua that joint patrol team of police and soldiers arrived on the scene of the attack, but no arrests had been made as the attackers had fled before their arrival.
