At least five people were killed and another seven were injured after an ammonia emission at Ukraine’s chemical concern Stirol. The accident occurred at 15:20 Moscow time while workers were conducting regular maintenance works at an ammonia collector at the plant located in Gorlovka, the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine, reported Russian Itar-Tass news agency. The plant’s owner said an ammonia spill posed no threat to residents of nearby settlements. “According to preliminary information, a liquid ammonia pipeline had depressurized, which caused the accident,” the company said. “The concern’s emergency service liquidated failures within 30 minutes. A special commission is investigating the accident.”
