Five people were killed when the boat they were travelling in capsized in southern Sri Lanka on Saturday, the police said. The boat was taking a local group to visit a lighthouse in Beruwala under overcast evening conditions when it was hit by a strong wave. The police said that the boat capsized at sea and it took time for people in the vicinity to reach the site using other boats. Of the 11 people who onboard when the boat capsized five had drowned, including four women, the police media unit said. The remaining people were rescued and some were said to be in a state of shock. Local police have launched an investigation into the accident.
