Six fishermen have been rescued from an ice floe that a strong wind had torn away from the shore and driven out to the Kurshskiy Bay, the spokesman for the Kaliningrad Region’s office of the Emergency Situations Ministry, Alexei Baranov told ITAR-TASS. “A coast guard unit of the federal security service FSB joined the rescue operation. It evacuated three men from ice floe. Emergency Ministry rescue personnel had picked up three others earlier. None of the fishermen required medical assistance. According to witnesses who made an alarm call to the Emergency Situations Ministry office, there were up to 80 amateur fishermen on the ice floe. Hovercraft have explored the area to have found no one. The rescued said their fellow fishermen had managed to find a spot where the floe approached the shore and left it on their own.
