Argentine Court allows abortions in all rape cases

Argentina's Supreme Court has ruled that any rape victim can get an abortion. Abortions are generally illegal in the country. Until this decision, it had been up to a judge to decide which rape victims could get abortions. Generally, only women with mental disabilities were approved. Now a rape victim will not be punished for terminating a pregnancy. They will have to provide to a doctor a sworn declaration that they were raped. The Roman Catholic Church condemned the ruling, AP reports. Pro-choice groups claim that about 700,000 illegal abortions are carried out every year in Argentina.
