Sayeeda Warsi, who sits in the British House of Lords as Baroness Warsi, confirmed she is cooperating with an investigation into her expenses. Warsi, the Conservative deputy chairman and the highest-ranking Muslim politician in Britain, allegedly claimed expenses while she was staying in the London home of Wafik Moustafa, a doctor and donor to the party, in 2008. Moustafa has said he received no payment from Warsi, while she has said she made the payments of Naweed Khan, who is now one of her aides. "I take these allegations very seriously; it's why I said right at the outset that I would fully cooperate with any investigation," Warsi said from Malaysia, where she is traveling. "I believe that being a member of the House of Lords is a privilege. It's why I have always ensured that my conduct, including in relation to expenses and allowances, is both in accordance with the law and the spirit of the rules." John Mann, the Labor member of Parliament who made a complaint about Warsi's expenses, said Warsi must show she actually made hotel stays she claimed and Khan must show he paid taxes on money he received from her.
