Thousands of revellers around the UK are expected to attend celebrations to see in the new year. Hundreds of thousands are expected to gather in London, many of whom will watch the London Eye fireworks display. In Cardiff there will be free live music at the Civic Centre, but there is no outdoor concert in Belfast this year. In Scotland thousands of people are expected to attend events being held across the country. There will be 3,000 police officers on duty in London, both at street level and on podiums to give them a bird's-eye view of any troublemakers among the crowds. There will be 12,000 fireworks set off at the London Eye, producing 50,000 projectiles. The display will be triggered by Big Ben's chimes and lasts for 11 minutes and 15 seconds. All travel in London will be free from 23.45 GMT until 04:30 GMT on New Year's Day. Road closures will be in place in the city from 16:00 GMT. About 20,000 revellers are expected in the centre of Weymouth for its New Year's Eve fancy dress party. The event has been running for the past 20 years. Firework shows Cardiff's annual Calennig celebrations at the Civic Centre will also feature a firework display at midnight. In the absence of an official city council-run event, revellers in Belfast are being advised by the council to attend events in local clubs and pubs. Large crowds are expected to gather in Edinburgh to see in the new year at the city's world-famous Hogmanay street party. The city, which has been dubbed the "home of Hogmanay", expects to attract about 80,000 party-goers to welcome in 2012. More than 2,800 fireworks are expected to be seen in the sky above the castle. A huge free party is to be held in Inverness, while in Aberdeen a free firework display is to be set off from the roof of His Majesty's Theatre in the city centre. Glasgow is hosting a family day, due to end at 22:00 GMT, with traditional music and children's activities. The city council had previously said it was not holding a street party this year due to the cost.
