Beijing on Tuesday urged Canada to ensure justice was done for a Chinese citizen brutally killed and dismembered in Montreal, a grisly incident that has garnered worldwide attention. The suspect in the case -- 29-year-old porn actor Luka Rocco Magnotta, who has been dubbed the "Canadian Psycho" -- was extradited from Germany to Canada on Monday. Police believe Magnotta used an ice pick to stab Lin Jun, a student at Montreal's Concordia University, some time between May 24-25 and then allegedly carved up the victim's body, filming the act. "The case of Lin Jun attracted great attention both from China and Canada," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters at a regular briefing Tuesday. "While handling the case, we hope the Canadian side can take into account the wishes of the victim's family, fairly try the case and do justice to the victim," he said. Hong gave no details as to what the relatives' wishes were. Lin's family, who travelled to Montreal earlier this month to meet with police, university staff and Chinese consular officials, had previously called for Magnotta's extradition when he was still in a German jail. "It is our wish to take this opportunity to turn a devastating situation into something positive that brings the goodness and peace back to our society," said a recent family statement released by Concordia University. Lin's torso was discovered in a suitcase. One hand and a foot were posted to political parties in Ottawa, and another severed foot and hand were delivered to two schools in Vancouver. His head, however, has yet to be found. Magnotta will face charges of first degree murder, among others, officials say.
