An Uzbek couple living in Russia have been sentenced to four years in prison for attempting to sell their newborn child, officials said. Police were informed in February that Gulnora Karabayeva, who was pregnant at the time, and her boyfriend, Bakhodir Dzhourayev, were attempting to sell the child, RIA Novosti reported Thursday. The couple were arrested after Karabayeva gave birth and they tried to sell the newborn to an undercover police officer for $500, officials said. Karabayeva and Dzhourayev were both sentenced to four years in prison for attempted child trafficking.
