The two crew members of an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet that crashed for unknown reasons off the California coast have been rescued, officials said. A rescue helicopter pulled the two out of the water Thursday morning near San Diego, where the jet was last seen about 10:30 pm. Wednesday, ABC News Radio reported. The rescued pilot and crew member were taken to Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego for treatment, the U.S. Coast Guard said. The two-seat jet was last seen 58 miles southwest of Point Loma in San Diego, said Coast Guard spokesman Henry Dunphy. He said the jet was flying with another aircraft when radio contact was lost. Rescuers found the two after they used emergency radios to call for help, the report said. The cause of the accident was being investigated and the extent of injuries the crew members rescued wasn't immediately available. The U.S. Navy sent two cutters, a C-130 Hercules aircraft and a helicopter to search the area and help in rescue efforts. The Coast Guard said the crashed jet belongs to the Marine Corps and operated out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar near San Diego.
