The death toll from the passenger train crash in Taiwan was risen to 18. As many as 160 people were injured, the Central News Agency said on Sunday citing a spokesman for the local emergencies agencies.
According to the spokesman, there are no foreign nationals from among those killed and injured.
The deadly accident occurred at 4.50 p.m. local time (2.50 p.m. GMT) near the city of Yilan. Five of eight cars of the train heading from Shulin to Taitung went off the track and overturned. According to the local authorities, there were 366 people in the train.
Taiwan’s defense ministry reported that the search and rescue efforts involve 150 servicemen, along with medics and rescuers.
