Mexico City - UPI

Mexico's drug-related violence continued as officials reported incidents of multiple discoveries of dead bodies, a U.S. newspaper report said. Fourteen bodies were found Thursday in a truck in San Luis Potosi, at least 17 people have been killed since Sunday in the port of Acapulco and 12 others were killed within 24 hours in Mexico City, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. Body dumps are a fixture in the conflict between rival drug cartels Sinaloa and the Zetas and in the federal government's 6-year-long declared war on the cartels. Among the victims in Acapulco were a pregnant woman and a 3-year-old boy, the newspaper El Sol de Acapulco said. Government figures, kept since September 2011, put the death count in the drug wars at 47,515, but activists and independent analysts say the toll surpasses 60,000, with at least 10,000 more missing, the Times said.
