Bamako - SPA

Flashfloods caused by torrential rains killed 24 people in Mali's capital Bamako, the government said Thursday. Heavy rains caused the Niger river, which flows through the city of 2 million people, to flood on Wednesday. "Heavy rains in Bamako and its surroundings have caused flooding. The floods have led to extensive damage and 24 deaths," the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness said, according to DPA. Homes have been washed away in several Bamako neighbourhoods located close to the river bank.
