Floods triggered by a tropical depression hit Vietnam's central and Central Highlands region, leaving two dead, one injured and other 12 people missing, said a report by the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control on Thursday. Floods caused by heavy rains submerged thousands of houses and large areas of rice and vegetables as well as damaged many roads. The Central Highlands province of Dak Lak reported one person died and as many as 2,107 houses were inundated while other 2,110 households were evacuated. Landslides blocked two provincial routes in Kon Tum province and four suspension bridges collapsed, said the committee. In the central Quang Tri province, a Lao nationality died while another local resident was injured. The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting forecast that water level in rivers in the region will continue rising in the coming days. The center also warned central provinces about landslides and flash floods in mountainous areas.
