Floods Kill 136 In Pakistan

A Pakistani relief official says monsoon rains have killed 136 people in the south of the country and flooded hundreds of thousands of rice, cotton and sugarcane crops. Sajjad Hayder Shah said Monday 90 of the victims had been killed over the last week, many when their houses collapsed. The Associated Press quoted Shah as saying that Pakistani soldiers were helping distribute food and other emergency supplies to hardest hit areas. The rains began in early August 12 and have affected some 170,000 acres of agricultural land.
