The Indian Parliament was adjourned Thursday following ruckus from opposition members who stalled proceedings for the third day in a row since it began on Tuesday for Winter Session. Both houses of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and the Lok Sabha (Lower House), were adjourned soon after they met, after opposition Bharatiya Janata Party's members as well as Left Members of Parliament disrupted proceedings over issues ranging from price rise to corruption. Sources said that the Indian government has been trying to avoid opposition's demands for a vote on issues like inflation and corruption, which led to the stalemate in both the houses of Parliament. In the Lok Sabha, even Congress MPs from the Telangana region rushed towards Speaker Meira Kumar's podium and shouted slogans demanding separate statehood for the region, apart from opposition demands. In Rajya Sabha also, the opposition members pressed for a vote on price rise and corruption, which forced the Chairperson to adjourn the house. Both houses of Parliament were adjourned Wednesday following an uproar by opposition parties. "No substantial business has been transacted so far in the winter session. A day wasted in Parliament means a loss of some 2 million rupees (40,000 U.S. dollars) from the exchequer," the sources said.
