Japan’s Emperor Akihito will soon be discharged from hospital where he is being treated for bronchial pneumonia since November 6, according to local press reports on Thursday. “The Emperor’s symptoms had almost disappeared, and still, we want his Majesty to rest through the end of this month at the Imperial Palace and Imperial Residence,” said one of the Emperor’s doctor. The doctors will decide later when the 77-year-old emperor should be allowed to restart his official duties while monitoring his recovery. The Imperial Household Agency said Mycoplasma may be responsible for the emperor’s bronchial pneumonia, judging from his symptoms such as persistent fever and coughing. Bronchial pneumonia happens when the pneumonia spreads to several patches in the lungs. Bronchial pneumonia is prevalent in infants, young children and aged adults and it is usually caused by Streptococcus pneumonia.
