Two tourists were killed and five others injured by lightning strikes in central China's Hubei Province on Tuesday afternoon, local tourism authorities said. The seven tourists were hit by lightning at around 2 p.m. at a scenic spot near the Three Gorges Dam in Yichang City, according to a source with a tourism company under the China Three Gorges Corporation. They were rushed to a local emergency center for treatment, but two died despite doctors' efforts. The other five are not in critical conditions, doctors said. As the world's largest hydropower project, the Three Gorges Project consists of a dam, five-tier ship docks and a total of 32 hydropower turbo-generators.
