A "massive explosion" hit the southern suburb of New Zealand's largest city of Auckland on Wednesday, with firefighters now battling a blaze at a scrap metal factory. The New Zealand fire service was alerted to the explosion just before 7pm on Wednesday. A fire service spokesman said they received dozens of reports of a massive explosion that have been heard and felt right through Manakau city, on both sides of the motorway. On arrival in the area, fire crews located a blaze at National Steel on Hobill Avenue, Wiri. Nine fire crews have been sent to the area and police and ambulance were also on the ground. The fire spokesman said there had been no reports of injuries.
