The death toll from a gas plant fire in northern Mexico on Tuesday rose to 26, the state-run energy giant Pemex said -- more than double the 10 deaths reported earlier in the day. "Regrettably, the number of workers who died in this morning's accident in Tamaulipas rose to 26," the company said on Twitter, referring to the state that borders the United States. Four of the dead were Pemex workers while the 22 others were contractors, the company said. "Our most sincere condolences to the families of the victims in this regrettable incident," it added. Pemex did not report any injuries but a Red Cross worker told reporters that 40 people had been injured in the incident near the border city of Reynosa. The fire was extinguished two hours after the fire broke out.
