Philippine ferry accident
Manila - MENA

The death toll from a capsized Philippine ferry rose to 51 on Friday, the Manila Bulletin cited coast guard official as saying.

The latest figure of 192 passengers and crew raises the possibility that M/B Kim Nirvana was overloaded when it left the port of Ormoc City last Thursday.

Initial reports showed that 173 passengers were listed in the manifesto on top of the 16. But the total number of passengers and crew was revised to 187 after authorities learned that two crew members did not board the ferry.

The 33-ton ferry capsized in a calm sea several hundred meters from Ormoc City port while on a regular trip to neighboring Camotes Island in Cebu.
