New Delhi - SPA

At least 35,000 landless poor began a march from the central Indian town of Gwalior to the New Delhi Wednesday to demand rights to land, activists and news reports said, according to dpa. 'We hope to reach Delhi on October 20 and will pass through MadhyaPradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana states drawing attention to our cause,' Anees Kumar, activist of non-profit Ekta Parishad, which organized the march, said. Most of the protesters are from rural communities including tribalpeople from Orissa, whose land rights have been affected by mining activity, and southern fishermen. Thet are demanding a national land reform policy and special administrative courts to deal with land rights, Kumar said.
