Tehran - Irna

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has expressed heartfelt condolences over the assassination of Former Afghan president and Head of High Peace Council Burhanuddin Rabbani on Thursday. In a message to his Afghan Counterpart Zalmay Rasoul, Salehi expressed his resentment over the assassination of Rabbani to the Afghan nation and government. Absence of such an enlighted clergyman and notable politician is not only painful for the Afghan people but for the Iranian nation and Muslims across the globe as well, he said. Former Afghan president was assassinated Tuesday evening at his home in Kabul. Rabanni had made great efforts to restore peace and stability to the war-torn country. Rabbani was head of the country's High Peace Council, which was set up by the Afghan government to work toward a political solution to the Afghanistan problem.
