A convicted serial killer was taken from a California prison to help police find the bodies of his victims, officials said. Wesley Shermantine was offered money by the FBI to help find the remains, Sacramento television station KTXL reported. Shermantine and Loren Herzog were the so-called Speed Freak Killers. Leonard Padilla, a bounty hunter who has been involved in the investigation, told the station that Shermantine was taken Sunday from San Quentin and taken to San Joaquin County. He was returned to prison the same day. The remains of three persons were found in a well. Two of the bodies were identified as Kimberley Billy and Joann Hobson, victims of the Speed Freak Killers. Forensic anthropologists have not identified the third victim, but say she was a pregnant teenager. Herzog committed suicide in January.
