The 10th anniversary of Mother Teresa beatification was celebrated in the main cathedral named after her in Pristina. The mass was led by special Pope Francis envoy Francesko Canalini. "Mother Teresa and her deeds are like a proof of love and hope. And everybody understood this message, recognized her and call her with sweet name – Mother. Her leading force was the Bible. Mother Teresa taught us all that we have to act sacred in our lives," Canalini said in Pristina. Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, together with a number of other ministers and high officials, was present at the mass. At the end of the mass, Thaci spoke emphasizing spiritual and humane values of Mother Teresa, saying she represents the most valuable sides of Albanian civilization. Mother Teresa was born in 1910 as Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Macedonia and she is Albanian by origin. "Today, as yesterday, but also in the future, Albanian civilization is proud by what Mother Teresa has done and left to us,“ Thaci said. Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation that runs hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, as well as soup kitchens, children's and family counseling programs, orphanages and schools around the world. Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She was beatified in 2003, the third step toward sainthood, and was given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.
