Chinese emergency officials said they were shipping tents and other supplies to the area where a magnitude-6.6 earthquake left thousands homeless. Saturday's quake in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region caused more than 50 injuries and affected more than 155,000 people routed from homes that were either damaged or destroyed. The Ministry of Civil Affairs and National Disaster Reduction Committee reported it had rushed 2,000 tents plus blankets and warm jackets to the area along with shipments of food. The Xinhua news agency said the 2,740 relief workers were assisting in the operation and repairing damaged roads in the high-elevation region.
