Rabat - Arab Today

Seventeen people were killed and 1,481 were injured, including 57 seriously, in the 1,169 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas on January 16-22, the Moroccan police said.

These accidents were mainly ascribed to non-control of vehicles, non-respect of priority, excessive speeding, pedestrian and driver errors and driving under the influence of alcohol, the Moroccan police pointed out in a statement.

Over 35,431 traffic tickets were issued by the police during the same week. The sum of fines paid by road traffic violators stood at around 4 million dirhams, the same source said.
