A truck transporting garment factory workers crashed into a motorbike in southeastern Cambodia's Svay Rieng province on Wednesday evening, leaving two motorists dead and 69 garment workers injured, the Ministry of Labor said in a statement on Thursday.
The accident took place when the truck, carrying the workers from a factory in the Neakareach Special Economic Zone to their homes, hit the motorbike head-on, the statement said, adding that the truck overturned in the collision and spilt those workers onto the street.
"Two motorists were pronounced dead as 69 workers boarding the truck got injured," it said, adding that the injured had been sent to hospitals soon after the crash.
Transporting factory workers in open trucks to and from factories is common in this Southeast Asian country. Last month, some 70 garment workers in southwestern Kampong Speu province injured when their truck overturned due to a tire explosion.
