Unmarried couple stoned to death in Mali

An unmarried couple in northern Mali were stoned to death in front of a crowd of 200 by Islamists, officials said. The execution took place Sunday in the city of Aguelhok, AGI reported. "I was there. The Islamists brought the couple to the center of Aguelhok. The put them in two holes and there they hit them with rocks until they died," a local official reported. The militant group has occupied northern Mali since March, officials said. Recently, Islamists have been wreaking havoc on the ancient caravan town of Timbuktu. There, they have destroyed the mausoleums of Muslim saints.
