Khor Fakkan - Arabstoday

A young couple, full of happy dreams for their newly married life, died in a road accident last week. The Emirati couple Mohammad Salem Al Naqbi, 24, and his pregnant wife, Faghiya Ahmad Al Naqbi, 22 from Khor Fakkan were killed on the Sharjah-Maliha Road when their car swerved, turned over several times and hit a lamp post. According to initial investigations, the cause of the accident was a burst tyre. Mohammad was killed on the spot, and his wife died on her way to the hospital. According to the victims' families, the couple was heading to Dubai to meet some relatives of Mohammad, who were spending the weekend there. The couple however did not inform their families that they were travelling to Dubai. Umm Al Yazya, Mohammad's sister, told Gulf News that after the accident, the police called the first number on Faghiya's mobile phone, which was her mother-in-law. The family was not informed of their deaths until they got to the hospital. Umm Al Yazya said the couple was married on November 5, 2010 and had many things in common. "Their characters were similar and they loved the same things as well. They both had joyful personalities and loved travelling and children," she said. "It is really a shock that both even died together. It is a tragedy to lose both of them at the same time," she added. Mohammad's mother-in-law, who could not hold back her tears, said: "I raised Mohammad with my own hands and I knew him very well. He was a social person and had a very soft heart toward children.  Just days before this tragic accident, he had thrown a party for all his nieces and nephews who graduated from different school levels." She said Mohammad, who worked as a policeman at Sharjah International Airport, also loved riding motorbikes, playing football and video games. Mohammd was planning to continue his higher education and apply for housing. Hamad Al Naqbi, Faghiya's brother, said according to some eyewitnesses at the accident scene, the bodies of the couple were found facing each other, as if Mohammad was trying to protect his wife. "Faghiya was a social person who loved to cook and draw and was dreaming of having a girl, as she was pregnant," he said. Mohammad's father Salem, who was out of town at the time of the accident, said: "When I got the call I instantly had the feeling that Mohammad was dead but in a motorbike accident, which I always advised Mohammad not to ride."
