A so-called "fashion gang" of six has been accused of stealing designer clothes from high-end retailers at various shopping malls. Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, head of Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID said the alleged gang comprising five women and one man, all GCC citizens would form into groups and enter one shop at a time. One group would distract the shop attendants while someone from the other group would grab expensive items, hide them under their abayas and quietly sneak out. Al Mansouri said that a so-called "Fashion Gang" comprising youths aged between 20 and 25 would be moving between Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall looking for designer shoes, handbags, accessories and would always ask for the latest collections. Since the beginning of last month, reports started pouring in about items missing from shops and 10 complaints were received within a short period of time, Al Mansouri said. Major Colonel Ahmad Al Merri, Director of the Criminal Investigation Section, said a team of undercover policewomen was set up to monitor malls and the suspects were identified and arrested red-handed.
