Morocco amends child labour laws
Casablanca - Khawla Boslam

Morocco amends child labour laws Casablanca - Khawla Boslam The Moroccan government has approved a new law protecting the social and economic rights of maids working in the country on Saturday. The amendment deals with the working conditions of female domestic workers and intends to improve employer-employee relations. The law will also provide them with social and economic support. Head of the Assembly of the Childhood Forum Association, Abdelali el Rami has stated that the group has emailed the minister of employment and The Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development group, requesting support to back further changes to the law. The association is calling for the prohibition of employing girls under the age of 15. He said: “This practice is detrimental to the image of Morocco and its children," urging the parliament not to delay approval of the request. El Rami added that the role of inspection given to the committees may contribute to the reduction of the abusive practice. Morocco previously signed an international convention to protect and respect the rights of children. The government intends to develop these rights and apply them to all domestic workers.
